About School Field Trips

Rescue Ranch school field trips are developed to offer hands-on animal encounters and interactive activities for students. Programs are based on common core standards to help students explore the curriculum. Each program includes hands on animal encounters led by one of our staff members, feed for the barnyard animals, and time on our sensory nature trails and inclusive playground. The cost for students is $8 per child. Teachers, assistants and bus drivers are free. The cost for parents and chaperones is $10. *We request a 25 person minimum.

Animal Look-alikes

Students learn how to distinguish reptiles, birds, and mammals through touch and sight while learning to identify parts of the animals including beaks, tails, claws, paws and hooves. They also study the distinction between fur, feathers, skin and scales, and the differences and/or similarities of behaviors and environmental interactions of each species. (Essential Standard KL1).

Plant and Animal Survival

Students learn what plants and animals need to survive through hands-on exploration. They will learn how animals are able to survive with and without human interaction in varying environments of North Carolina. (Essential Standard 1.L1)

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Students learn how animals are able to reduce, reuse, and recycle through hands on presentations. They will create items to reduce energy use and reuse items that would be thrown away. (Essential Standards 1.L1, 1.G.2,2.G.2)

Animals from the Beginning

Students will see and experience the unique life cycles of various animals, including reptiles, birds, and mammals, and learn to visually compare the traits of siblings and mother-child pairs. They will also learn the importance of spaying and neutering their dogs, cates, and other pets. (Essential Standards 2.L.1, 2.L.2)

Animals Adapting to Live

Students learn about how animals affect their environment. They learn different traits that animals use to survive such as special moth parts, body coverings, and camouflage. They also learn how humans affect the environment both negatively and positively. (Essential Standards 4.:.1, 5.L.2)

General Education Program

Students learn the proper way to treat animals as they interact with our animals and play games. They will learn what it takes to care for an animal of their own, what laws protect the animals, and ways they can help. We teach them through stories of our animals and their quest for survival.

Exceptional Children Programs

Rescue Ranch offers programs for Exceptional Children that are customized to fit the needs of the students. On these days we have a classroom set up with large tables to be used as a changing area. We also have a classroom set up as a calm down room for children who need a break. See below for types of programs and dates we have set for this year. Don't see a date that works? We can customize a program just for your school.
