Rescue Ranch school field trips are developed to offer hands-on animal encounters and interactive activities for students. Each program includes hands-on animal encounters led by one of our staff members, a barnyard tour with animal feeding, and time on our nature trails and inclusive playground. We offer common core standard curriculum based lessons by grade upon request. See options below.
The cost for students is $10 per child. Teachers, assistants and bus drivers are free. The cost for parents and chaperones is $10. *We request a 25 person minimum.

Kindergarten
Animals: Alike and Different (L.1.1), All Around Us: Living and Nonliving Things (L.1.2)
Students learn how to distinguish reptiles, birds, and mammals through touch and sight while learning to identify parts of the animals including beaks, tails, claws, paws and hooves. Students will also learn to compare characteristics of living and nonliving things.
First Grade
Ecosystems: Plant and Animal Survival (1.L.1.1, 1.L.1.2)
Students learn what plants and animals need to survive through hands-on exploration. They will learn how animals are able to survive with and without human interaction in varying environments of North Carolina.
Second Grade
Life Cycles (2.L.1.1, 2.L.1.2)
Students will see and experience the unique life cycles of various animals, including reptiles, birds, and mammals, and learn to visually compare the traits of siblings and mother-child pairs. They will also learn the basic needs animals need to survive like food, water, shelter, air, and space.
Third Grade
Ecosystems: Plant Power (3.L.2.1, 3.L.2.2)
Students will learn the names and functions of major plant parts, their functions, and how they survive. They will also learn how environmental conditions play a part in plant health and growth.
Fourth Grade
Animal Adaptations and Behavior (4.L.1.1, 4.L.1.2)
Students learn about how animals affect their environment. They learn different traits that animals use to survive such as special mouthparts, body coverings, and camouflage. They also learn how humans affect the environment both negatively and positively.
Fifth Grade
Biotic Factors: Decomposers, Consumers, and Producers (5.L.2.1, 5.L.2.2)
Students will learn about several common ecosystems and their characteristics. We will focus on the organisms that make up the ecosystems and their roles that keep it healthy through food webs, energy pyramids and more.
General Education Program
Our general education field trips consist of meeting a variety of indoor animal ambassadors and a barnyard tour with feeding. During this time students will learn specifics about the species including their habitats, general needs, what is involved in their daily care, and what to expect when getting animals as pets. This program also includes using our mile long nature trail with engaging activities, using our covered and uncovered picnic areas and spending time on our playground.
Exceptional Children/Adult Programs
Rescue Ranch offers programs for Exceptional Children and Adults that are customized to fit the needs of your group. Groups will meet our indoor animal ambassadors as well as visit and feed our barnyard animals. Our barnyard pathway is accessible by wheelchair and walkers. Groups are able to use our picnic areas and inclusive playground that is designed for any and all abilities.
Summer Field Trips
Rescue Ranch offers programs for summer camps and groups that are looking for a day full of fun. For these programs, you will spend time in nature and interact with many of our animal ambassadors. These trips run from 9:30a-3:30p. Groups will feed and meet our barnyard animals, explore our nature trail. Our playground, and picnic areas are also available for use. These programs must be booked in advance. The cost is $10 for children and adults.
